Irrigation is dependent on the rain, springs (water surfaces naturally from the underground) and the snow during winter months. There are no rivers, seas, pools nor waterfalls surrounding the village of Dooreh. The springs are far away from the village, more than 4000 meters to the north of the village near the Turkish mountains. Water flows down a large valley and joins together forming a small stream which then flows down the big valley. The villagers usually use the water to drink and water their plants. The water level was quite low at one point causing problems with irrigation. This affected the apple trees which the village is best known for. There are more than 10 springs which supply water to the villagers. The biggest one called “Solawa T”Zagh”, followed by “Eyna Korta” and “Eyna T’Womoy”. The “Eyna T’Womoy” spring is solely used for drinking water. In 1996, an enormous job was done in transforming the water transport method. A water pipeline, measuring about 1800 meters in length was created to transmit water flow from the “Eyna T’Womoy” to the village and into each home. 10 years ago, the government encouraged the people who left the village to return and work on their farms. The government then took care of the people in the area by developing roads, streets, schools, hospitals, churches and irrigated schools, hospitals and churches. Electricity was also brought to some villages such as Dooreh. Agriculture It was very difficult in the past due to lack of education. As a result, the villagers planted wheat, rice and barley. It was important to plant these crops in the winter, wheat and barley depended on rain. All of the villagers worked hard to get more food for the winter. The farmers of the village planted apple trees to get more money, thus now the village is famous for delicious apples from the wonderful apple trees. |
