Mar Qayoma Church

  Mar  Giwarges Church

  Saint Virgin Church

Saint Pious Church

The building of MAR Qayoma church dates back to the year 985 AD, and it is known and described as the “White Church” in the book titled, “Travels and Researches in Asia Minor, Mesopotamia, etc.” written by Dr. William Francis Ainsworth.  It includes excerpts from the British Royal geographical societies who visited the village in June 1840.  They were accompanied Reverend Mindo from Church of The East, his translator Mr. Rassam and photographer, Russell.   The village of Dooreh contains traces of the Virgin and Saint Pious Church.  Also, Saint Giwargis Church includes a stone paned with the date 909 AD in the Assyrian language as the year of its construction.

Bashman studied Churches of Dooreh and Lizan but he did not mention their dates, and this is sorrowful for shavaleih in his book by saying that this sort of research would help us identify the period where Christians settled in the area.  We also talked about the difficulty of defining the departure date or Dooreh as Bishopric center.

The Dominican father Jack Ritorich, known as Yacoub Nukhraya, who visited the area at the end of the 19the century, said that the churches there were like allies, light did not enter except from gaps penetrating the thick wall.  They had narrow doors so that people would enter into them regressively.  Dooreh church however, is distinguished by being a cave closed by a wall, which might have been a monastery church in the past.  This is not a surprise as the area inhabitants called each church in the name as DIRA and this name expressed in the Kurdish language under the name Diria, It is confirmed that these churches were used in various times as defense fences due to their narrow window where the height of windows is between 75 and 90 centimeters.
