Yako Khoshaba Deko was killed on January 13th, 1988. He was a teacher and politician. The government had sent him along with a group to a village called Darekney located in the north of Iraq to fight against the Kurdish lawbreakers who opposed the government. During battle, the enemy caught all of them and they put them in one line, they then shot them one by one. They killed all of them except one man, who escaped with a wounded leg. Yako was seen by a gunman but he told the gunmen that he was Assyrian from Barware Bala so he spared his life. He then went to a relative’s home but a woman saw him enter the home and soon she told the authorities. A few days later they came to his relatives home and shot him on the street outside. Yako left behind his wife Sulteh, his only daughter Susan and three sons, Odein, Ashur and Yako who was named after him. R.I.P |
